Obituary For Benno J. "Ben" Bearer
Benno J. “Ben” Bearer, 90, Carrolltown passed away December 16, 2020 at Miners Medical Center. He was born December 11, 1930 in Carrolltown, the son of Irvin J. and M. Ethelend (Waltz) Bearer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister Barbara Mulligan, brothers Robert “Bob” Bearer and William “Bill” Bearer. He is survived by his loving wife, whom he married October 5, 1957 Sarah “Sally” (Bloom) Bearer; children Kathy Samay, Johnstown; Benno (Karen) Bearer, Jr., Carrolltown; Mary Ann (Alan) Moore, Warrenton, VA; Don “Duck” Bearer, Carrolltown; grandchildren Isaac, Renee, Luke, Ethan, Michaela, Vincent, Nicci and Chris; five great grandchildren; sister Elizabeth “Betty” Perry, Fayetteville; brother Bernard (Caryle) Bearer, Carrolltown and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a 1948 graduate of Carrolltown High School. Ben was a U.S. Army Veteran and when he returned from the service he took over the family business Bearer Appliance in Carrolltown. He was an active member of St. Benedict Catholic Church, Carrolltown and the Carrolltown American Legion Post 506, where he was a member of the honor guard for military funerals. He enjoyed spending time at Dark Hollow Camp. Ben volunteered for the blood drives at the church, enjoyed photography, was an avid St. Francis basketball fan and enjoyed visiting residents at various personal care homes. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, visitation will be private. Funeral Mass 10:00 am Saturday at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Carrolltown by Rev. Jude W. Brady, OSB. Interment church cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials are requested to St. Benedict Catholic Church PO Box 447 Carrolltown, PA 15722. Full military rites will be accorded by local veterans organizations.
