Obituary For Bernard T. "Berney" Bearer

Bernard Thomas “Berney” Bearer, 83, Carrolltown passed away March 4, 2022, peacefully in his home with beloved family by his side after battling Alzheimer’s Disease. He was born April 2, 1938 in Carrolltown, Pennsylvania. He was 1 of 6 children born to the late Irvin and Mary (Waltz) Bearer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers and sister Robert “Bob”, William “Bill”, Benno “Ben” Bearer and Barbara Mulligan. Survived by loving wife of 62 years, Caryle (Koterwas) Bearer; daughters Karen, wife of Doug Kegerreis; Linda, wife of Dr Daniel Dorfman; Susan Bernard; son Jerry, husband of Theresa( Sokira) Bearer; grandchildren, Amanda (Bearer)Tatum, Kristi (Kegerreis ) Elliott, Leah (Bearer) Sidone, Derek Kegerreis, Mindy Bernard, Ren Hess, Brooke Bernard, Tristan Hess and Mallory Bernard, great grandchildren Jocelyn Tatum, Carson Sidone, Matthew Tatum, Adelena Sidone, Kayleigh Elliott; sister Elizabeth “Betty” Perry and numerous nieces and nephews. He attended John Carroll High School and married his high school sweetheart. Berney was an experienced electrician that started as an independent contractor. He retired as a Foreman for IBEW LU5 after 30 years of service. He was an active member of St. Benedict Catholic Church, Carrolltown, lifetime member of the Carrolltown Fire Company, and the Knights of Columbus. He volunteered for festivals, firemen’s jubilee, maintenance at church, fire police and Holy Name Society. Berney enjoyed hunting , fishing and golfing. He loved spending time at Big Pine and GetRDone Camps with his buddies. He loved to cook every family holiday meal! He also enjoyed attending the many sporting events, recitals, and various activities of his beloved grandchildren. Berney was a great storyteller, had a unique sense of humor and always made people smile. Friends will be received in the Boniface Wimmer Room at St. Benedict Catholic Church on Saturday from 9:00 am until the 11:00 am funeral Mass at the church, by Rev. Michael Gabler, OSB. Interment church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Carrolltown Fire Company or memorials to St. Benedict Catholic Church, P.O. Box 447, Carrolltown, PA 15722. Arrangements are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home Inc., Carrolltown.
