Obituary For Edgar F. Link, Sr.
Edgar Francis Link, Sr., 95, of Carrolltown, Pa went to be with the Lord on April 26, 2024. Edgar was born at home on his family’s farm in Carrolltown on December 31, 1928, the son of Dennis and Effie (Illig) Link. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Warren, Maurice, Ivo, Alvin, and Oliver, and sisters, Edna, Viola and Alma and infant great-grandson, Jesse Bartlebaugh. Edgar was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by and will be forever missed by his loving wife, Joanne (Myers) Link, whom he married on April 29, 1961; 13 children: Anna Marie (Barry) Minemyer, Paula (Dan) Weinzierl, Pamela (John) Snedden, Patricia (William) Frederick, Edgar Jr. (Lynne), Kathleen (Andrew) Fedorko, Dennis (Jennifer), Rebecca (Gus) Gabrielson, Lori (Ron) Kirsch, Angela (Luke) Baker, Andrew (Betsy), Joanna (Andrew) Henry, Joseph (Andrea); 50 grandchildren, and 33 great-grandchildren with 1 more on the way. Edgar graduated from Carrolltown High School in 1946 and worked on his family’s farm, delivered milk for Lauer’s Dairy, and made tank parts at the Army Post in Ebensburg, before he was drafted into the Army in 1954. Edgar completed basic training at Fort Knox, KY, and spent 2 years in Germany as a tank mechanic and sniper. Edgar worked for Bender Electric Company and Main Street Garage in Carrolltown before having a successful 20-year career with American General Life Insurance Company in Altoona, as an insurance salesman. He also kept himself busy after retirement by working for R.H. Kelly and Son in Hastings. Edgar was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend to all who knew him. He was an avid storyteller and his wild tales about goblins, bears, Bigfoot, Belsnickel, and red eye will always be fondly remembered. He delighted in giving candy to his grandchildren who all lovingly called him “Pap,” and enjoyed spending time with all his family, especially Sunday lunches and afternoon walks to the witch’s cabin. Edgar was well known in Carrolltown and couldn’t wait to greet his friends at the post office, Fruit Market, and the bank with a joke and a smile. He also enjoyed sharing laughs over shots of Yukon Jack and ginger brandy. Edgar was a devout Catholic and a lifelong member of St. Benedict Church in Carrolltown, where he was a Eucharistic Minister. He prayed the rosary daily and never missed saying grace before a meal at all family functions. He also served on the Carrolltown Borough Council for 40 years. Very special thank you to Fr. Michael for his abundant blessings and to Penn Hospice, especially Nikki Conrad, Nicole Kline, Fr. Scott Lil, and Jill Clark. Family and friends will be received from 3:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday at Stevens Funeral Home, Inc. 146 North Main Street Carrolltown, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. Additional visitation will be held Thursday in the Boniface Wimmer Room at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Carrolltown from 10:00 am until the 11:00 am funeral Mass at the church, by Rev.
