Obituary For Geraldine H. Cunningham

Geraldine H. (Yeckley) Cunningham, 106, Ebensburg, formerly from Carrolltown passed away May 22, 2022 at the home of her daughter, Rita and Ken Caretti, with whom she lived for the past 13 years. She was born August 28, 1915 in East Carroll Township, the daughter of the late Leonard A. and Regina H. (Switzler) Yeckley. She was the last surviving member of her family and that of her husbands. She was preceded in death by husband Otto (Pat) Cunningham, who died in 1972; siblings Leona Edwards, Charles, Lewis, Mildred Lilly, Mary Moses, Etheldreda Maus, Ben, Leonard and Regina Caretti. She is survived by children: Shirley (Carl) Romagna, Greenville, NC; Louetta (the late, Joseph), Shank, Carrolltown; Robert (the late, Marion Yanosky), Mineral Point; Richard (the late, Patricia Sekerak); Rita (Ken) Caretti; Ethel Cunningham and friend John Klanchar, Tom (Sherry Becker); Linda (Tim) Kline, all of Ebensburg area; 44 grandchildren, 98 great-grandchildren; 23 great great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Theresa Yeckley, Carrolltown; brother-in-law Joseph M. Caretti, St. Benedict and numerous nieces and nephews. Geraldine was a member St. Benedict Catholic Church, Carrolltown. She did many needlepoint crafts and ceramics in her younger days, and up to 6 months before she died, she enjoyed riding her exercise bike. She also enjoyed crocheting afghans for Kindred Hospice, reading, working Cryptograms, playing cards, and watching the birds at the feeder. A special thank you to Kindred Hospice Team, Chaplin Tim, Nurse Ashley, Aides Candi and Maureen, Social Worker Stacy, and Volunteer Kelsey. Also to her daughter Louetta for the valuable time she spent with her these past months. Friends will be received from 4:00 to 8:00 pm Thursday at Stevens Funeral Home, Inc. 146 North Main Street Carrolltown, PA 15722, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. Additional visitation will be held Friday in the Boniface Wimmer Room of St. Benedict Catholic Church, Carrolltown from 9:00 am until the 10:00 am Funeral Mass at the church. Interment church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the Catholic School of your choice or donations to St. Francis University Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library at www.francis.edu/DollyParton in memory of Geraldine Cunningham.     I remember, not sure the year but I was in elementary school, she came for a visit. She offered to cut my hair. While cutting the right side I sneezed, and she cut a patch out down to the scalp. The things you remember. 😀

    Rest in Peace Aunt Dane. I'm sure when they were both reunited, after 50 years, the first words Otto said was, "what in the world took you so long". When your loved and well cared for, you don't mind sticking around.

    Working with two grand-daughters (Joan and Brenda) we heard many fun stories about the life and times of this dear lady. My sincere sympathy to all of you. May Geraldine rest in peace except for the occasional card game sure to be played in heaven!! God bless her soul. Kim Burkett
