Obituary For James H. Eckenrode

James H. Eckenrode, 89, Carrolltown, passed away peacefully with his wife and children by his side October 15, 2021 at UPMC Altoona. He was born July 13, 1932, in Carrolltown, the son of Robert and Marie (Westrick) Eckenrode. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister Helen and brother in law Bernard Hammond. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty years, Judith (Voelker) Eckenrode, children: Jennifer (Jeff) Sharrar, Rimbersburg; Jason (Denise Kelly) Eckenrode, Nicktown; grandchildren: Tyler and Megan Sharrar, Ashley and Ryan Eckenrode; great grandchildren: Charlee, Harper and Bailee; brother Thomas (Diane) Eckenrode, Durango, CO; sister Jeanne (George) Pipas, Emporium, PA and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a 1951 graduate of Carrolltown High School. Jim owned and operated Custom Homes and Remodeling, he built over 100 homes in the area. He was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church, where he was an usher for over 40 years, life member of the Carrolltown Fire Club, member of the Carrolltown Businessmen’s Club and a life member of Dark Hollow Hunting Camp. Jim enjoyed hunting and riding his four-wheeler. He loved making things for his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and making things for basket auctions. Friends will be received Tuesday in the Boniface Wimmer Room from 9:00 am until the 10:00 am Funeral Mass at St. Benedict Catholic Church, by Rev. Michael Gabler, OSB. Interment church cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home, Inc., Carrolltown. In lieu of flowers, memorials are request to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
