James L. “Jim” Farabaugh, 73, Carrolltown passed away January 29, 2021 at home as Marcy was holding his hand. He was born January 21, 1948 in Spangler, the son of Leo G. and Hilda (Westrick) Farabaugh. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother Donald and brother-in-law Patrick Kelly. He is survived by his loving wife Marcy (Weiland) Farabaugh, whom he married November 3, 1973; children: Jeremy married to Kristen Janesko, Harrison City, PA; Matthew married to Shannon Eckenrode, Nicktown; grandchildren Gavin, Hayden, Owen and Ava; brothers and sisters: Barbara Kelly, Gettysburg; Bernard (Muriel) Farabaugh, Carrolltown; Ken (Norma) Farabaugh, Carrolltown; Janet Tibbott, Northern Cambria; Kathryn (Roger) Duman, Ebensburg; Girard (Jean) Farabaugh, Carrolltown; sister-in-law Arlene (Joe) Karlheim and many loving and supportive nieces and nephews. At a young age Jim worked on the family farm. When he was old enough he went into landscaping and excavating for Clete Bopp Construction. He also worked as a logger for Amadei Lumber Company, a tractor trailer driver for Farabaugh Farms and retired from his farm where he raised livestock, potatoes, cabbage and grain. He enjoyed many recreational activities, playing cinch, golfing, horseshoes, gardening and hunting. He was a member of Colver Sportsmen’s Dart Team where he helped win numerous league championships over a span of 40 years. He got his sons involved in 4-H and was instrumental in forming the Cloverleaf County Bred Junior Cattlemen’s Club. His friends still talk of how he fought the Gorilla at the Cambria County Fair in 1968. Jim loved to travel and visited all 50 states. His last memorable trip was to Rome, Italy. He was known to many of his friends as “Traveling Jim”. Jim never failed to speak his mind, especially on his views on politics and his Catholic Faith. He lived life to the fullest, but being a Pappy to his four loving grandchildren was his greatest joy. Hunting, fishing and taking Gavin to auctions with him, playing catch and rooting for Hayden at her softball games, watching football and fishing with Owie, and his little Princess Ava who always got him whatever he needed. Friends will be received Thursday from 9:30 am until the 11:00 am Funeral Mass at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Carrolltown by Rev. Jude W. Brady, OSB. Interment church cemetery.
