Obituary For John D. "Jack" Peters
John "Jack" D. Peters, 91, of Carrolltown, PA, formerly of Grand Island, NE, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2025. He was born on January 4, 1934, in Boelus, NE, the son of Daniel and Barbara (Maiefski) Peters Rasmussen.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather Arnold Rasmussen, and sister Bonnie-Lou (Peters) Scott. He is survived by his beloved wife, Agnes (Cymbor) Peters, whom he married on June 5, 1971; his daughter Bernadette (Champie) Douglas of Las Vegas; his son CDR Daniel Peters, USN (Ret.), of Hollywood, MD; and his half-sister Rebecca Markwell. Jack was a proud grandfather to Jackson, Audrey, Beau, Anne, George Champie Jr., and Oliver. He also leaves behind two brothers-in-law, three nephews, one niece, many cousins, and dear friends.
Jack graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1952 and went on to attend the University of Nebraska. He served his country with honor in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1963 as a General Draftsman (MOS 810.00). His professional career spanned over three decades with Clayton and Willis Architects (30 years) and Jim Cannon Architects (7 years), before establishing his own business, The Blueprint Drawing Co., which he ran for 18 years.
A lifelong University of Nebraska Cornhuskers football fan, Jack found great joy in spending time with his grandchildren and family, bowling, tinkering in his walkout basement workshop, and fixing up just about anything. He was a devoted member of St. Benedict Catholic Church in Carrolltown and was actively involved in the Grand Island Liederkranz Club, the Elks Lodge (NE #604 and PA #175) for over 56 years, and AARP. He also gave his time to the Boy Scouts of America and Grand Island Central Catholic’s Karnival Kapers.
Honoring Jack’s wishes, there will be no public visitation. A memorial Mass will be held at a later date, and burial with full military honors will take place at St. Benedict Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Saint Vincent De Paul Food Pantry in Carrolltown, PA, or the Grand Island, NE Humane Society.
Arrangements are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home, Inc., Carrolltown. Condolences may be left at www.stevensfamilyfuneralhomes.com or on the Stevens Family Funeral Homes Facebook page.
