Leona Dowey, 101, St. Benedict, formerly of Carrolltown passed away October 4, 2023 at St. Benedict Manor. She was born November 30, 1921 in Spangler, the daughter of Lawrence and Ellen (Kennedy) Walsh. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Francis L. Dowey, sisters, Zita Orlasky, Mary King, Helen Rescinito, Bernadine O’Conner, Kathleen Hudson, Irene Evans; brothers: Lawrence, Paul, Walter and Edward Walsh and grandchild, Lynn Ann. She is survived by her children: Paul (Jean) Dowey, Cherry Tree; John (Cleta) Dowey, Williamsburg; Mary Engle, Sebastin, FL; grandchildren: Lisa Engle, Steve Engle, Ron Dowey, Karen (Jim) Slusser, John (Sheri) Dowey, Jr., Kevin (Michelle) Dowey; six great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She retired from Miners Hospital after many years of service. Leona was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church, Carrolltown where she was very active, enjoyed selling ticket chances and was a member of the Altar Rosary Society. Family and friends will be received in the Boniface Wimmer Room at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Carrolltown Monday from 10 am until the 11 am funeral Mass at the church, by Rev. Michael Gabler, OSB. Committal St. Nicholas Cemetery, Nicktown. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to St. Benedict Church Tower Fund.
