Obituary For Leonard J. Eckenrode

Leonard J. Eckenrode, 77, Patton, passed away March 31, 2024 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 13, 1946 in Spangler, the son of Leo W. and Mary C. (Weakland) Eckenrode. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Beverly Eckenrode and Linda Hoover. He is survived by his loving wife, Bernadette (Shrift) Eckenrode, whom he married February 17, 1968, children: Kimberly (Lonny) Lallemand, Patton; Jennifer (Lawrence) McKernan, Warriors Mark; Shawn (Char) Eckenrode, Wellington, FL.; grandchildren: Maude, Margaret (Jonathan), Thaddeus (Jordyn), Anya (Gordon), Grace (Bryant), Kenneth (Annamae), Logan, Rose, Hazel; great grandchildren: Reagan, Addilyn; brother, Richard (Sandra) Eckenrode; sisters in law; brothers in law and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a 1964 graduate of Bishop Carroll High School. Leonard was a Vietnam Veteran with the U.S. Army. He retired from Norfolk Southern after 30 years of service. He was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church, Carrolltown, American Legion Post 506, Carrolltown, PA Trappers Association, National Trappers Association and the NRA. He enjoyed camping, trapping, fishing, hunting and was an avid outdoorsman. Family and friends will be received Wednesday, 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at Stevens Funeral Home, Inc. 146 North Main Street, Carrolltown, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. Additional visitation will be held in the Boniface Wimmer Room of St. Benedict Catholic Church, Carrolltown Thursday from 9 am until the 10 am funeral Mass at the church, by Rev. Michael Gabler, OSB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local blood banks or the Hillman Cancer Center in Leonard’s memory. Full military rites will be accorded by local veteran organizations.
