Obituary For Maurita F. Grimes
Maurita F. Grimes, 97, St. Benedict, formerly of Carrolltown, passed away April 3, 2024 at St. Benedict Manor. She was born September 5, 1926 in Carrolltown, the daughter of Maurus and Ethel (Bearer) Westrick. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Donald E. Platt, second husband, Michael Grimes, daughter, Janie Caurvina, grandson, Cory Platt, brother, Ned Westrick, sister, Marjorie Semelsberger and son in law, Frank Scappino. She is survived by children: Karen (Paul) Barrett, Wesley Chapel, NC; Joyce Scappino, Nanty-Glo; James (Lynne) Platt, Rocky Hill, CT; Dennis (Barbara) Platt, Carrolltown; Donald (Diane) Platt, Ebensburg; Michael (Rhonda) Platt, Parker, CO; grandchildren: Bethany (Lou) Whitehurst, Jennifer (Mark) Mihalic, Melynda (Justin) Gradich, Alison Milchak, Mike (Sherri) Platt, Meaghan (Michael) Blair, Jenna (Jonathan) Rice, Brett Platt, Ryan (Cassie) Platt, Briana Platt, Haley Zimmerman, Laurel Caurvina, Nicholas Caurvina, Leah Mastrine; great grandchildren: Siena and Ethan Whitehurst, Hayden, Hunter, Gavin Mihalic, Paige, Tyler Gradich, Crosby, Rhoades Wagner, Aubree Zimmerman, Cassidy and Jordyn Platt, Eden and Autumn Blair, Julia and Louis Rice, Levi Platt, Malakhi and Leo Platt and numerous nieces and nephews. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a foster grandparent at the Ebensburg Center and Holy Name Church, Ebensburg and volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul in Carrolltown. She was member of St. Benedict Catholic Church, Carrolltown, Daughters of the American Revolution and the Altar Rosary Society. Family and friends will be received 5:00 to 7:00 pm Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at Stevens Funeral Home, Inc. 146 North Main Street Carrolltown, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. Additional visitation will be held in the Boniface Wimmer of St. Benedict Catholic Church, Carrolltown, Wednesday, April 10, 2024 from 9:00 am until the 10:00 am Mass at the church, by Rev. Michael Gabler, OSB. Interment church cemetery. Memorials can be made St. Benedict Catholic Church or St. Vincent de Paul.
