Sarah “Sally” Bearer

February 15, 1934 – January 6, 2026

Sarah “Sally” Bearer, 91, Carrolltown, passed away Tuesday at UPMC Altoona.

Sally was born in Spangler, daughter of the late Griffith and Vernita (Sharbaugh) Bloom. On October 5, 1957, she married Benno J. “Ben” Bearer who preceded her in death on December 16, 2020.

She is survived by children: Kathy Samay of Carrolltown, Benno (Karen) Bearer, Jr. of Carrolltown, Mary Ann (Alan) Moore of Warrenton, VA and Don “Duck” Bearer of Carrolltown; sister, Ann Goodwin of Peoria, IL; eight grandchildren: Isaac, Renee, Luke, Ethan, Michaela, Vincent, Nicci and Chris; six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Sally was also preceded in death by siblings: Francis “Bud” Bloom, James Lobig, Margaret “Madge” Sherry, Doris Risbon, Jerry Bloom and Barbara Bearer.

Sally retired from Bearer Appliance as secretary and bookkeeper.

She was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church where she was active in the Altar Rosary Society.

Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. Friday, January 9, 2026 at Stevens Funeral Home, 146 N. Main Street, Carrolltown, PA 15722 where a vigil for the deceased will be held. Additional visitation will be in the Boniface Wimmer room of St. Benedict Church from 9 a.m. until a funeral Mass at 10 a.m., Saturday, January 10, 2026 at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Carrolltown by Fr. Michael Gabler OSB, Officiating. Committal will be at St. Benedict Cemetery.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to John Carroll Area Ambulance, 239 N. Main Street, Carrolltown, PA 15722, www.johncarrollems.com in Sally’s memory.

    I will miss Sally's welcoming greetings when I would stop by the house as well as her campground visits. She loved a good mountain pie and Mary Ann makes the best! Hers was a life well lived in the gospel. I am thankful she had an easy passage into the next life.
